Description: This workshop will present cutting-edge affirming treatment approaches for gender diverse adolescents and adults with a nationally-recognized expert in the field. Content includes key terminology and concepts, medical and surgical treatment options, co-occurring mental health conditions, cardiovascular health, cancer screenings, and sexual health, as well as specific content on dosing and lab protocols for prescribing hormone therapy. Behavioral Health clinicians will gain insight into the benefits of collaborating with medical providers to support client well-being.
Learning Objectives:
- Define a range of Transgender/LGB/Nonbinary identities (terms, concepts, affirming language)
- Examine health disparities, including HIV, that impact these communities
- Explore methods to make health and human service organizations open and affirming to LGBTQ people
- Describe barriers that may impact LGBTQ patients seeking health care
- Review treatment options for medical transition in children, adolescents, and adults
