Description

Sexual minority women face a unique set of inequities compounded by intersections of misogyny and discrimination against their sexuality, leaving them to fall through the cracks of the healthcare system. This population faces a heightened risk of sexually transmitted infection, substance misuse, and anxiety/depression, and addressing this inequity is imperative for their health and safety.

Learning objectives:

  • Analyze the unique health challenges and inequities that many sexual minority women face.
  • Identify intervention strategies to support sexual minority women who wish to address substance use issues.
  • Discuss how preconceptions about who is at risk for HIV has put sexual minority women in a position of heightened vulnerability and explore solutions to engage them in preventative care.
