This advanced level session will delve into providing sensitive and competent genital exams for gender diverse patients during and after medical transition. Everyone who has pelvic organs needs regular preventative cancer screenings, and hormone therapy or genital surgery concerns may necessitate a physical exam. This session will discuss the barriers that gender diverse patients face that make them avoid seeking care and present actionable techniques to ease discomfort while providing care.
 

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify barriers that prevent gender diverse patients from seeking pelvic care.
  • Prepare providers to take patient history and perform appropriate physical examinations.
  • Explore clinical management of genital bleeding, sexual health, contraception, and preventative care.
  • Examine the possible impacts of hormone replacement therapy on reproductive organs and implications for fertility.
