Description

This advanced level session will delve into providing sensitive and competent genital exams with Trans Masculine patients during and after medical transition. Everyone who has pelvic organs needs regular preventative cancer screenings, and hormone therapy or genital surgery concerns may necessitate a physical exam. Gender dysphoria, vaginal atrophy, trauma history, unreliable provider training, and other barriers mean that trans men often avoid care that requires a speculum exam. This workshop discusses some of the challenges trans masculine people encounter in seeking pelvic care, exam techniques to ease discomfort, clinical management of pelvic symptoms, and fertility concerns that may arise during the visit.
