What is the "Providing Affirming Care for Sexual and Gender Minority (LGBTQ) Communities" Symposium?
This virtual learning experience offers up to 6 hours of continuing education credits for medical and behavioral health professionals, all for one day, one fee, and one commitment.
When does the symposium take place?
The day-long virtual session is happening on Friday, September 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Who will benefit most from this symposium?
Clinicians and providers requiring continuing education credits, but also any healthcare or human service worker who wants to participate in creating a welcoming and inclusive healthcare environment.
What types of continuing education credits are available?
A medical track and a behavioral health track are available, accredited through the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB). All sessions are cross-accredited, allowing attendees to craft the day that’s right for them. Those not seeking continuing education credits may audit at a discounted rate.
Who will be the instructors for the session?
Session instructors include some of the world’s most renowned subject matter experts who primarily serve these populations in their practice. Among them is the symposium’s keynote speaker, Dr. Kade Goepferd (they/them), the Chief Education Officer and the past Chief of Staff for Children’s Minnesota, a leader in the LGBTQ community in driving equitable care for LGBTQ youth, particularly transgender and gender diverse youth, and is a sought-after speaker and trainer on these topics.
Why should I attend the symposium?
Even in the year 2024, there is a huge gap in education surrounding caring for LGBTQ communities. Attending our entire day of learning will equip attendees with the knowledge and skills necessary to start to close that gap, and provide inclusive, welcoming healthcare for some of our most vulnerable populations.
